A poetic history of the British Isles and it self-sufficient industries. The film is divided into four chapters: 1.Eriskay; 2.Guernsey; 3.Inner Farne and 4.Great Britain.

A film about the island of Jersey in the 1960s

This one-reel film was produced during the middle of the Second World War. It purports to offer a portrait of the British people, in broad and in fine. It shows them as hard-working, serious people five and a half days a week; on Saturday afternoons and Sundays, they pursue their private interests, whether they be following a football team, spending time with the family or chatting amiably at the pub while the pretty barmaid draws a fresh beer.

This short film uses photographs from various public and private collections, interwoven with the memories of islanders who lived at the turn of the century, to tell the tale of how Prince Edward Island somewhat reluctantly became a Canadian province.

After a tragic accident at sea, Eben Cole loses his family, friends and stature in his island fishing community. He returns to the island an outcast but determined to win back the way of life he fought so hard to protect. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Maine coast, Islander captures the grit and integrity of this hard working community and celebrates man's unerring need for redemption.
