Sophie and the land of the wretched

An educationalist - a 'thief of childhood' becomes alarmed over the inappropriateness of old, fairy tale stories for children. The old book like the one about witches and monsters in her hands suddenly springs to life. Out from it escape Sophie the Witch and her companions: Black Claw, Gray Nightmare and the Red Straw Monster, as well as the water-sprite Aquiline, the shy little dwarf Tiny Peat, and the enchantress Lady Spider. They scatter among the town and woods and performed all kinds of mischief. Sophie just can't get her broom to fly, because she became too fat. The monsters, disappointed over the century in which we live, return back into the book, the witch Sophie loses her magic power and becomes 'Aunt Sophie', and Tiny Peat has changed into a black cat.

Little Sophie is very mischievous and naughty. With her best friends Paul and Madeleine, she is constantly inventing new games that lead to new problems every time. Her rich imagination often plays tricks on her.

The series recounts five difficult years in the life of young Sophie who goes on the conquer the world, endowed with exceptional character and vivacity. By overcoming numerous trials and tribulations, she will reveal her best qualities.

Sophie is a little girl, naiver than nasty; sometimes abetted by her cousin Paul, she always gets into mischief, although the boy is much wiser than she is. Her best friends , Camille and Madeleine are so virtuous that Sophie's behavior doesn't compare favorably with theirs. In the castle where she lives with a rather severe mother (and a father very often gone to Paris), not a day goes by without she getting up to mischief.

Sophie has bad luck in life. She is a romantic, she doesn’t like her job and everyday, little inconveniences meet her. Real trouble starts when she meets her ex partner from whom she once ran away to another city. In the beginning, the girl believes in his transformation but their relationship turns into a string of fights and verbal abuse again. Sophie decides for a final resolution – she calls on her father.

Sophie is far from being the model little girl one would like her to be, unlike her friends Camille and Madeleine. She always insists on having her own way, often getting into trouble, to the despair of one and all. But her mother is unbending and otherwise inclined. She will not let her get away with anything, and poor Sophie will often have to live with the consequences of her bad behaviour and learn her lesson.
