"Dogs jumping in and out of frame"

With only two dogs there are entire worlds of movement.

In the center of the ring the trainer forms a pile of baskets many feet in height. Greyhounds leap in rapid succession, forming a graceful arch and landing on the ground as lightly as so many feathers. The position of the camera was a most happy one, as the dogs appeared to leap directly toward the audience and the film is both beautiful and exciting.

"In the piece we see the two dogs staring at the camera in a dark room. Their eyes are intently following something off camera. Sometimes their head movement is pull into the action as they crane to follow the whatever it is in various left right and up down directions. At one point the action seems to stop and the dogs begin to blink in syncopation. At this point Hooka settles down into a lying position but Man Ray remains riveted. Towards the end piece the dogs crane to look behind them and at one miraculous moment their motions counter each other. At the end we see the object of their attention…in my hand, a tennis ball."

"An exhibition of Prof. Leonidas's trained animals. A cat is stretched across two chairs, and a number of dogs of different breeds jump over her."

A film experience to invite careful looking and listening. A group of dogs in the countryside, and at home. The camera observes in a sensitive and detailed way: as the dogs explore a stream and drink, we see how their tongues work to toss beads of water upwards. The rhythms and sounds, the ways of relating and communicating that are special to dogs.

Short film about dogs in the snow.

This was my first published short film. It is a film of my two dogs - Chippy in the foreground and Audrey behind - through the windowpane. Chippy was upset with me for filming without his consent and for refusing to let him inside for the two minutes I spent filming. The film is an experiment in "perverted formats" (a medium filtered through another).

3664 found film frames are projected in this ingeniously compiled sequence. Which ones the mind lingers upon will vary per viewer.
