A fascinating glimpse of the Chinese diaspora across southeast Asia, this Hong Kong production follows a wayward husband through Southern China and Thailand, and tracks the travails of the wife he leaves behind.

A beautiful but dopey mainland woman leaves her husband to get into movies in HK. She starts at the bottom and gets screwed (literally and figuratively). She is befriended by foul-mouthed hooker Amy, and pursues her dream.

Li's first directorial work in Hong Kong is adapted, by himself, from the Hollywood movie The Great Lie (1941) starring Bette Davis. When a husband disappears in an accident, the wife is dismayed by a social butterfly pregnant with her husband's child. To preserve the husband's blood line, the wife takes care of the expectant mother and raises the child. Featuring the two ravishing beauties Li Lihua and Sun Jinglu, Our Husband foregoes juicy feuds between the leads and delivers an allegorical message: parents should provide an ideal environment for the next generation. Addressing the rocky times in China, it is equally overt in its remonstration as Yung Hwa's earlier works, The Soul of China and Sorrows of the Forbidden City.

In order to save herself while in China, a woman marries a young drifter and is able to return to England. Later, believing that her new husband is dead, she marries a wealthy man. Her new husband's ex-girlfriend, learning of the woman's past and that her first husband is indeed alive, threatens to expose the new wife as a bigamist.

The story of a high-profile relationship between an Academy Award-winning actress (Josie Ho) and her much-younger partner, who has yet to find his true career path. The actress had a baby when she was very young, a daughter whom she was forced to give away because she wasn't financially independent and wanted her little girl to have a better life. But now that she's older, she realizes that it's time to find her long-lost daughter, now in her twenties, and hires a detective to find her. The mystery of what happened to her provides the film's drama and tension; also, the actress' partner doesn't know about her search--and the urgency and distraction of the search begins to erode their relationship, until he suspects that she's having an affair. By the end, the actress reunites with her daughter and salvages her marriage.
