Filmed in a barren fishing community off the Icelandic coast and a trendy hotel in Helsinki, A Seal Story is a queer take on a contemporary love triangle. It takes its inspiration from the legend, where seals were believed to be former human beings who voluntarily sought death in the ocean. Once a year, they were allowed to come on land, strip off their skins and amuse themselves as human beings.

The grey seal has always been adept at hunting fast, elusive prey. As one of Europe's largest predators, the decline of fish stocks and increase in competition, as well as legal seal hunting, has changed their entire world--and their behavior. Recent improvements in annual surveys and animal tagging have revealed precious information about where grey seals go when they leave the coast and how they spend their lives. Their name traditionally conjures up images of adorable pups and clownish behavior, but this film uncovers another side to these predators.

In a North Pole classroom, Professor Seal is teaching th young seals all about fishing. One little seal would rather practice snowball-juggling and plays hookey, and gets into trouble with the teacher. But back in the classroom a hungry polar bear is waiting to make food out of the seals. The juggling seal does his act and the bear is so impressed that he decides to stay in school and learn to juggle.
