Seven years after the death of his wife, widower Shigeharu seeks advice on how to find a new wife from a colleague. Taking advantage of their position as a film company, they stage an audition. Interviewing a series of women, Shigeharu is enchanted by the quiet Asami. But soon things take a twisted turn as Asami isn’t what she seems to be.

While her son, Kichi, is away at war, a woman and her daughter-in-law survive by killing samurai who stray into their swamp, then selling whatever valuables they find. Both are devastated when they learn that Kichi has died, but his wife soon begins an affair with a neighbor who survived the war, Hachi. The mother disapproves and, when she can't steal Hachi for herself, tries to scare her daughter-in-law with a mysterious mask from a dead samurai.

This rare silent black & white and color Super-8 footage was shot with the camera of actor Kei Sato (Hachi in the film) during the production of ONIBABA. Of course, they don’t know that they’re the perfect couple because they each keep a “terrible” secret from the other. This prevents them from enjoying a normal sex life. The husband is impotent unless he can watch another couple having sex, and the wife pleasures herself to thoughts of being raped while someone else watches. Eventually, the voyeuristic husband and the exhibitionist wife confess their secrets to each other and realize how silly they’ve been when they were clearly made for each other.
