Scene with a queen in a mud bath

A woman undresses, takes a bath, gets a massage, and relaxes.

It's a cold day in Charlottetown and an old lady is feeling the blahs. Even the cat looks bored. As she figures out what day of the week it is, she realizes it's bath day. So, off she goes down the hall of the boarding house to the communal bathroom. Once in the tub, she is transported into the mythical dreamland of reverie and the exotic. At the end she is interrupted, someone is clamouring to get in. It matters not, the old gal has been rejuvenated and with that extra spring in her dance back to her room, she proves that a bath is all you need to refresh your psyche.

Through an invisible keyhole, the viewer peeps at the leisure activities of a carefree group of noblewomen who enjoy the water, as well as a hearty slice of emancipation.

A middle-aged man bare chest and wearing trousers, clears a shallow trench in the sand while a young woman draped in a long, flimsy veil looks on. The man leaves, but stays in the nearby wood at a watching distance, glancing at the girl divesting of her robe, sitting in the trench as if to sunbathe. She shifts positions a couple of times, but then the man returns, and starts covering her with sand. Unhappy, the girl gets up, picks a flask of lotion from the trench, and leaves with the man.

A grieving young couple suffer each other's company in a stale seaside home. One night, a feral mudcreature appears in their kitchen. Upon washing her, they discover a malleable innocent fit to become a lady!

It begins in a deserted public bath house, on a sultry summer afternoon. The building is blacked out and its landlady goes into men's bath to handle the situation. There, she accidentally witnesses something which afterwards causes irreversible changes in her life.

A young girl finds her ideal type in a small bathhouse which runs by her mother. She is strongly attracted to something and awaits her. It is not possible to know whether the women's scent, which she has not yet had, is yearning for her.

"From the 1969 exhibition, Bride in the Bath is shown in its sculptural form – a life cast of a model's body lying back in a bath and draped in black silk coated in resin. The footage is cut with film I shot of a model lying back in a bath in which black, then white ink is poured. The final images are shot in color from the position of looking down on oneself in the bath and reflected back in a mirror. All are part of my exploration of the female body in water, the body in the bath." - Penny Slinger
