Denmark, 1755. Chile was given its name by the Incas who respectfully called it Chili, ‘the country in the south’. Only a short journey on a gravel road and the Atacama Desert begins. At its centre it is the driest desert in the world where the forces of nature have turned it into an extraordinary landscape. The Atacama extends between the Pacific Ocean and the Cordilleras, an area of stone and sand that is perforated only by various frequently dried out salt lakes. From the Atacama Desert in the north to as far as the stormy Tierra Del Fuego in the south, Chile is a country rich in contrast. Volcanoes, arid deserts, salt lakes, lively geysers, sandstone mountains and a cosmopolitan city. All of this is to be found in Chile, a country at the end of the world!

Testing the limits of their bikes and bodies, three friends disappear into Chile’s Atacama desert. Following an old route of the 2014 Dakar Rally, they venture into the Altiplano – a high altitude volcanic plateau stretching across Bolivia. Extreme cold, Extreme altitude and limited fuel supplies, the boys race toward the highest altitude capital city in the world, LaPaz. Their journey is an insight into South American culture, a wild ride across some of the toughest landscape on earth and a story of friendship as three mates find their way through the Andes!

Set in 1970 in a desert mining town in northern Chile, Mariola is a 17-year-old known in the town as Mario. Sporadic rains bring bursts of life to the driest place on Earth, and in the midst of this landscape, Mariola gets invited by a theatre company of travestis to travel to Lima, Peru. During the journey, Mariola begins to discover who she has always wanted to be. Upon returning to Chile, a new era of political and social change drives her to affirm their identity.
