A group of students investigates a series of mysterious bear killings, but learns that there are much more dangerous things going on. They start to follow a mysterious hunter, learning that he is actually a troll hunter.

An orphaned boy raised by underground creatures called Boxtrolls comes up from the sewers and out of his box to save his family and the town from the evil exterminator, Archibald Snatcher.

Luckily, his new neighbor Sellie sets him free and, together, they meet with Trollie. Unfortunately, Sellie’s father hears about the troll and goes out of his way to expose the creature to the public. But Trollie is very miserable being put in display and Max stages his escape to reunite his troll friend with his family in the land of Ekeby.
