With the help of government-issued pamphlets, an elderly British couple build a shelter and prepare for an impending nuclear attack, unaware that times and the nature of war have changed from their romantic memories of World War II.

Since the death of her husband, Kok, Nia has inexplicably developed Alzheimer's disease. She had the opportunity to return to her old house, where she had lived with her husband for many years, to visit her closest friend Saw, whose house was next door. They spent a long time seated at the dining table in Saw's home, talking about their health and the life they have lived and lost.

Once upon a time... in the far away kingdom of Dor... lived a brave and virtuous mouse with comically oversized ears who dreamt of becoming a knight. Banished from his home for having such lofty ambitions, Despereaux sets off on an amazing adventure with his good-hearted rat friend Roscuro, who leads him, at long last, on a very noble quest to rescue an endangered princess and save an entire kingdom from darkness.

Yet another variation on the Three Little Pigs theme, this time told as WW2 anti-German propaganda (the US had just entered the war), with the wolf as a thinly-disguised Hitler.

The children of the London Blitz, some evacuated, others still in the city, are the focus of this film. A fund- and awareness-raiser aimed at US viewers, it was sponsored by the American branch of Save the Children and produced by key documentary production company Paul Rotha Productions.

Featuring archival footage from both German and UK sources, this documentary examines the defense of Britain during the early years of World War II.

The experimental stop motion story of a London boy in World War 2, we witness war drawing inexorably closer as he comes of age. 14 when war begins, our young hero lives through bombings, the evacuation of his siblings, the privations of wartime. Yet he survives and even thrives. He sets out to search for his friend in the East End during those turbulent and frightening times, and with his own voice tells his story with a wit and verve few would believe today. Finally we leave him at the brink on D-Day, a hero already in the making.

There's little sign of war in this attractively tinted film of London landmarks (the Dutch intertitles are mostly self-explanatory), but the film's propagandist intention becomes clear with the knowledge it was shot on 26 September 1917, immediately after a sustained German bombing campaign. The wreckage of a bombed-out house appears halfway through, but for the rest of the film London is depicted as essentially timeless - and, more importantly, intact. [...] -BFI
