The Shuttered....

In a small island off the American coast, the Whateleys live in an old mill where a mysterious bloody being creates an atmosphere of horror. After her parents get killed by lightning, young Susannah is sent to New York by her aunt Agatha, who wants her to avoid the family curse. Years later Susannah, now married, persuades her husband to spend a holiday in the abandoned mill. Once on the island, Susannah and Mike soon find themselves exposed to the hostility of a gang of thugs led by Ethan, Susannah's brutal cousin.

A hand-painted film in which shapes representing film camera and projector shutters move in unshutter-like ways. The process of filmmaking relies on the continual and consistent revolutions of these pieces of machinery but here they create their own rhythms. (This film was commissioned by the Winnipeg Film Group's Cinematheque for its 25th anniversary, Silverscope)

An empty 16mm film projector is digitally rephotographed and brought into the digital domain. Video acts as a kind of microscope, revealing hidden pleasures that were present at this time.

A newly married couple discovers disturbing, ghostly images in photographs they develop after a tragic accident. Fearing the manifestations may be connected, they investigate and learn that some mysteries are better left unsolved.

Shutter is the first feature film by Berlin based photographer, Goodyn Green. It is a mosaic of short, highly charged episodes of queer sexualities – each sequence carefully staged and vibrating with erotic tension. It reflects the spirit and the freedom of the Berlin lesbian scene in 2014.
