What happens when a community has to perform one of its most important traditions but even the eldest among them are unsure of how to do it? Caught in this quagmire, the Kaasik community of the Nocte tribe of Tirap district in North East India embarks on a journey of reliving their past while reflecting on their future as a distinct culture.

The lack of rains and a dying river has put the lives of the inhabitants of a remote fisherman's village at stake. Deprived of their main source of income and finding it increasingly difficult to sustain themselves, the villagers who have consulted oracles and conducted "frog-weddings" are now desperately looking for a way out of their plight. An unusual solution presented by a priest seems like a possible cure for the curse and though reluctant at first, the villagers decide to go ahead with it for the greater good of the village. Village simpletons nicknamed Benga and Bengi, suddenly find themselves at the centre of the chaos that ensues - and it changes their lives forever.

A picture which illustrates an Indian myth, a poetic love story of the long ago, in which a despised musician is refused the privilege of marrying the belle of the tribe. He proves himself not only strong enough to kill his rival, the tribe's stalwart warrior, in a struggle for the girl, but is able to make a magic flute which can and does restore the girl, now lying dead. In the closing scenes, the picture shows a short glimpse of modern life which suggests that the old myth is being played, in part, again.

The story of a tribe in the far North East of India engulfed in the depths of violence and bloodshed, and resurrects itself through the healing power of music and emerges through a musical renaissance.
