Wandering her rambling old house in her boring new town, 11-year-old Coraline discovers a hidden door to a strangely idealized version of her life. In order to stay in the fantasy, she must make a frighteningly real sacrifice.

In a world of enchantment and mystery, Coraline Dale uncovers supernatural phenomena within her majestic castle. Overhearing a plot to capture her oldest friend, she embarks on a quest with her faithful feline companion, Shadow, venturing through a hidden passage into a mechanical domain.

A dirty lake bursts its banks and begins to flood the town. At last there’s a good reason to keep the son at home. But in isolation, nightmarish associations start to mix with reality. And whilst outside the world sinks peacefully under water, a domestic apocalypse rages inside.

Stop motion animation using handmade miniatures and time-lapse manipulation. Loosely based around images and ideas from Poe’s “Fall of the House of Usher” and Bachelard’s “Poetics of Space.” Collaboration with Colin Wheeler.
