Max imagines running away from his mom and sailing to a far-off land where large talking beasts—Ira, Carol, Douglas, the Bull, Judith and Alexander—crown him as their king, play rumpus, build forts and discover secret hideaways.

Max, a lonely boy, escapes to an island inhabited by mysterious creatures called the Wild Things. As their king, he learns about friendship, leadership, and the complexities of growing up before returning home to his family

Max is on the run from a quasi-military posse. Outnumbered and caught in a pickle between the posse and the enemy outpost, the odds are not in Max's favour.

A mature man tries to ease his loneliness with fleeting encounters with friends, his lover, old acquaintances and his teenage daughter.
