The true story of pianist Władysław Szpilman's experiences in Warsaw during the Nazi occupation. With war raging around them a terrified young couple lock themselves up in their apartment with their baby without food or milk. They need to leave the apartment but are afraid because their hungry baby cries so much that the soldiers will hear and catch them. Panicking, the frightened father curses the baby.
